Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have traded LHP Roger Kalinowski to the Sioux City (IA) Explores, of the Northern League, in exchange for LHP John Duffy and RHP John Rohlfing, the Northeast League team announced today.
Duffy, originally signed by the Boston Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in 1996, went 1-1 with a 8.06 ERA last season out of the Explorers bullpen. The eight-year veteran was a member of Lumberjacks manager Kash Beauchamp's bullpen in 2000 while with the New Jersey Jackals. Standing at 6-2, 180 pounds, Duffy graduated from the University of Richmond in 1996 and is a native of Norristown, Penn, also the hometown of Lumberjacks pitching coach, and former teammate, Kevin Pincavitch.
Rohlfing will be entering his fourth season in professional baseball, all spent in the independent Northern League. The six foot five lefty signed with the Schaumburg (IL) Flyers out of the University of California Davis in 2001. In three seasons, Rohlfing is 2-5 with a 4.03 ERA in 49 relief appearances. A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Rohlfing has struck out 85 in 67.0 innings pitched, while walking just 35 during his career. Last season, he was 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 10 games.
Kalinowski had a 3.64 ERA in 42.0 innings pitched, while going 1-2 last season for the Lumberjacks.
