Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - In a game that was pushed back with over 30 minutes of rain delay, Kirsten Verdun, Sara Moulton and Tatum Edwards combined to pitch a three hit shutout against the Rebellion in front of those fans who braved the intermittent weather.
Each pitcher allowed one hit in the eight-inning exhibition game against Pennsylvania. Verdun pitched 2.1 innings to start the game followed by Moulton. Tatum Edwards closed out the game with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work. The trio combined for six strikeouts.
Both of the Bandits runs were scored by players who signed with the team through open tryouts in prior seasons. Danielle Zymkowitz led off the bottom of the third inning with a double in the left and center field gap. Three batters later Tammy Williams drove her home with a chopper over the third baseman's head.
In the seventh inning, Verdun hit a double to begin the inning. Sammy Marshall, the Bandits 18th overall pick in the 2015 NPF College Draft, bunted for an infield single. On the play the Rebellion first baseman dropped the ball allowing Verdun to round third and score on the error.
The third inning saw two great defensive plays from two Bandits newcomers. Left fielder Brenna Moss, Chicago's 13th overall pick in the 2015 NPF College Draft, made a sliding catch in foul territory and Taylor Edwards who played for the Rebellion last season threw a strike to second to catch a Pennsylvania base runner stealing to conclude the inning.
The Bandits roster featured multiple hopefuls who tried out for the team at this morning's tryouts. Outfielder Kelsi Jones, infielder Vicky Galasso, Megan Baltzell and Christina Jaques all suited up for the home squad along with Megan Blank of Iowa. Blank came in at shortstop for the Bandits in the later half of the game.
The Bandits and Rebellion meet again tomorrow night, Monday, May 25, in Rosemont for the second and final exhibition game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT. The Bandits will make their decision on who will join the roster for the 2015 season following the game.
