Orange County Flyers News Release
Cole Cicatelli chopped an infield single that drove in the winning run to give Long Beach a 6-5 win in 10 innings Thursday night at Blair Field.
The Orange County Flyers rallied in the 5th and 6th innings to tie Long Beach at 5-5, but they failed to score in the late innings and dropped to 0-3 in the second half.
Starting pitchers Jeff Heaverlo and Nate Holguin pitched deep into the game, but they both received no-decisions. Heaverlo struck out 13 batters in 8 innings and gave up just two earned runs. Holguin struck out six through 6.2 innings.
Nick Casanova dazzled in 2.1 innings of relief for the Flyers by retiring seven of the eight batters he faced.
Andrew Soto was handed the loss in the 10th inning after giving up a leadoff double to Jorge Araiza, who scored the winning run on Cicatelli's hit.
Buddy Morales keyed both Orange County rallies with booming doubles to left field.
Bret Levier committed a throwing error in the 2nd inning, which led to two unearned runs for Long Beach. Kirk Gross made a key fielding error, which led to three unearned runs for the Flyers in the 6th inning.
Long Beach is now 2-0 and will look for the sweep over the Flyers Friday night at 7:05 p.m. on KWRM 1370 AM and www.orangecountyflyers.com.
