Armada Pitcher Jeremy Zick Acquired by Toronto Blue Jays

(Dublin, CA. July 19, 2007) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that the Toronto Blue Jays have purchased the contract of RHP Jeremy Zick of the Long Beach Armada. He is already on his way to Florida to report to the High-A Florida State League Dunedin Blue Jays.

"Jeremy Zick has been just about unhitable since he moved into the rotation," said Darrell Evans, Manager of the Long Beach Armada. "He will be missed, but deserves this shot and will do well for Toronto."

Zick, 24, was moved from the bullpen into a starting role for the Long Beach Armada early in the season and has responded by posting an undefeated 4-0 record and leading the league with a 1.61 E.R.A. as he struck out 42 batters in 45 innings pitched while walking 15. Originally drafted in the 15th round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004, he spent three years in their farm system advancing to their Single-A team before being released. All 57 of his games in the Cardinals organization were as a reliever where he utilized his mid-90s fastball as a closer and in middle relief. Starting for the first time in his career, he has developed into one of the top starters in professional independent baseball.

This is the fifth GBL player acqured in the last two weeks and brings to a total of 11 the number of GBL players sold to major league teams in 2007.
