Ballon, Perez Honored by NEL

Québec third baseman John Ballon and Allentown right-hander Miguel Perez were named Monday the Daktronics Northeast League Players of the Week for the period ending Sunday, July 20.

Ballon went 12-for-25 (.480) with a .720 slugging percentage, .552 on-base percentage, three doubles, one homer and 10 RBIs in seven games last week.

Ballon, 25 out of the University of New Orleans, is playing in his fourth season in independent professional baseball. He had a combined .287 batting average in the Frontier League and Central League prior to 2003 with 22 homers and 118 RBIs in 621 at bats.

Perez won two games during the week and posted a 2.40 earned run average. He allowed four runs in seven innings in a win at Elmira on July 15 and zero runs in eight innings in a victory at Berkshire on July 20.

Perez, 27, was born in Cuba.
