Ballerz top Nighthawks in thriller
November 29, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Virginia Ballerz News Release
Richmond, VA. The ABA Richmond Ballerz defeated the Maryland Nighthawks 135-132 in a home thriller at the Ashe Center. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as just one point separated the teams with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. Guard Maurice Carter and Guard Mario Taybron scored two free throws each in the last six seconds of the game to put the Ballerz on top.
Despite Maryland's lead throughout most of the first three quarters, Nighthawks high scorers Marc Karcher with 33 points and Anton Jenifer with 24 were not enough to carry Maryland to victory. The Ballerz were down by as much as 20 points during the third quarter but rallied back to close the gap and take the lead. The game was tied at 131 in the last minute of the game but a series of fouls against the Ballerz sealed the win when Maurice Carter and Mario Taybron both hit two free throws to put the Ballerz ahead by three.
Season veteran Tyrik led the Ballerz in points with 28; guard Shawn Harris had 27 and Carter added 23. Brian DeMarco-Williams and Tayborn had 21 each while Williams led the team in rebounds with 14.
The Ballerz next home game is Thursday night at 705pm vs the Wilmington Sea Dawgs at Arthur Ashe Center. Tickets are available at the door. For more information, call 804 647 4391 or visit www.richmondballerz.com or www.abalive.com.
