Bakersfield's Trey Johnson invited to Lakers Training Camp

Bakersfield Jam News Release

With training camp starting this Saturday, the Lakers have invited another roster hopeful in 6'5" guard Trey Johnson.

Like another training camp invitee, Anthony Roberson, the 26-year-old Johnson has a mix of NBA, NBDL, and international basketball experience.

Johnson played college basketball at Jackson State University after transferring from Alcorn State. At Jackson State, Johnson lit up the scoreboards, averaging 25.3 points with 4.7 rebounds per game.

He was signed by the New Orleans Hornets in 2007 as an undrafted free agent, but was subsequently released after posting 4 points and 1.8 assists per game in under 14 minutes during the preseason.

He then played overseas in Serbia before returning to the U.S. in 2008 to play for the NBDL's Bakersfield Jam, where he averaged 18 points per game through 76 games and three seasons. He also made the All-NBDL Second Team, and was selected to a NBDL All-Star game.

In February 2009, Johnson was picked up by the Cleveland Cavaliers on a 10-day contract and returned overseas thereafter, playing in France and Italy.

While not physically gifted with great speed or athleticism, Johnson can be an offensive threat, particularly with his mid-range jump shot which he can knock down with relative consistency.
