
Bakersfield Blitz Hold Open Tryouts Saturday, February 24th

BAKERSFIELD , CA - The Bakersfield Blitz announced that they will hold an open tryout for the 2007 Arena Football team on Saturday, February 24th at Bakersfield College , located at 1801 Panorama Drive , Bakersfield , CA 93305 .
Registration will start at 9:00am and the tryout will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Players must be at least 18 years of age or older, and will need to bring 1) a valid photo ID, 2) an updated bio, and 3) appropriate workout attire and cleats. All activities will be held on natural grass and are open to players of all positions. Skills that will be tested include, among others, the 40-yard dash, short shuttle, broad jump, one-on-one for offensive and defensive linemen, and seven-on-seven for wide receivers and defensive backs. Tryout fees are $65 with pre-registration and $80 on the day of the event, payable by cash or money order only. No checks will be accepted. Pre-registration fees may be paid in person at the Bakersfield Blitz corporate offices located at 515 Truxtun Ave. , Bakersfield , CA 93301 .
"We are really looking forward to the open tryout. There is always a 'diamond-in-the-rough' and that is what we will be out there looking to find," said head coach Gary Compton. "We've had a lot of great talent and personalities come out of the Bakersfield open tryout in the past including FB/LB Nick Onaindia.
In 2006, the Bakersfield Blitz enjoyed their most successful season ever as the team advanced to the 2nd Round of the National Conference playoffs, and won their first playoff game ever. As a team, they had the #1 ranked defense in the league, leading in total defense and pass defense, while finishing 2nd for most interceptions. Individually, DS Alex Wallace ( San Jose State '04) was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Year, and OL/DL Jerry Turner (Tennessee Tech '02) was named the U.S. Army Lineman of the Year.
In 2007, the Blitz are proud to welcome back head coach Gary Compton, who was a 13-year veteran of the Arena Football League and was named the "Built Ford Tough" Man of the Year in 2001.
The Blitz will make their season debut on Thursday, March 28 at the Laredo (TX) Lobos and will have their season opener on Saturday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. against the Stockton Lightning at the Rabobank Arena. Season tickets are available by calling (661) 377-2548.
