Glens Falls, NY-Golden Eagles starter Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Kansas State) improved to 2-0 on the season pitching five innings allowing two hits, one run and striking out six to help Glens Falls snap a three-game losing streak in a 4-1 victory over the Elmira Pioneers on Tuesday night at East Field. Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) went two-for-four with an RBI and two runs scored while teammate David Olsen (Tacoma C.C.) had two doubles and a run scored.
Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) set down the Pioneers one-two-three in the ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the year. With the save, Ruchim has now tied reliever Marc Damon who had eight saves during the 2008 season.
J.P. Leto (Lurleen B. Wallace C.C.) led-off the game with a walk and then scored on Ricky Claudio's RBI triple into right center, which gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Kyle Ruchim extended the lead to 2-0 as he drove the Carter pitch deep to right but picked up the RBI on the sacrifice fly.
The Pioneers cut the Golden Eagles lead to 2-1 in the top of the second as designated Corey Keller (Florida Atlantic) scored on the RBI groundout by left fielder Logan Uxa (Arkansas State).
Glens Falls regained their two-run lead in the bottom half of the inning. David Olsen led-off the inning with a double and then scored on the KJ Alexander (Texas Baptist) RBI single down the right field to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead.
The Golden Eagles took a 4-1 lead in the third. Ricky Claudio singled and stole second to leadoff. Then with two-out third baseman Josh Anderson sent an RBI single to left center scoring Claudio.
Glens Falls reliever Chris Myers (Georgia Southern) pitched two scoreless innings striking out three while Glens Falls native Pete Noordsy (Wofford) struck out the side in the eighth to keep the three-run Golden Eagles lead.
Pioneers starter Jordan Carter (St. Joseph's) fell to 4-3 on the year going seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out four. Reliever Matt Holling (Corning C.C) pitched a scoreless eighth while striking out two.
Wednesday, the Golden Eagles (23-15) travel to Cooperstown for a doubleheader against the Hawkeyes starting at 2 pm. Glens Falls will then host Cooperstown on All American Baseball Night at East Field on Thursday night. The Pioneers (17-21) head to Albany to take on the Dutchmen for a 7 p.m. start at Bellizzi Stadium.
