Backyard Rink Winner Announced

Brandon, Manitoba-- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that the family ofAl and Lori Grebinksi has been chosen this year's winner inThe Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest.

The Grebinski family was chosen Monday afternoon from over three hundred entries received at Fan Services (during Wheat Kings' home games), at Brandon's Home Depot or online at www.wheatkings.com.

For winning, members of the Wheat Kings will be visiting the Grebinski backyard rink, located west of Brandon on Thursday afternoon.

Thursday's backyard rink game of shinny against11-year old Dawsonand members of theFowler Hyundai Starswill be the only game that the Wheat Kings will play before Friday night's WHL game against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Brandon is coming off a weekend home stand that saw them win back to back overtime shootouts against Swift Current and Regina. The Wheat Kings enter the week with a record of 34-26-1-3 and trail the seventh place Regina Pats and sixth place Saskatoon Blades by one and two points respectively in the Eastern Conference.

The Wheat Kings are bidding for a club record 12th straight playoff appearance in the WHL.

Brandon finished the month of February with an impressive 9-2-0-1 record. The Wheat Kings will play five of their final eight games at Westman Communications Group Place.

While the Wheat Kings don't play until the weekend, they will be kept busy throughout the week. In addition to regular practices at Westman Place, captain Mark Stone will host February'sManitoba Public Insurance - Brandon Sun School Patrol LuncheonatO'Kelly School in Shilo on Wednesday and members of the WHL club will be visitingLinden Lanes andGreen Acres Schools on Tuesday andElkhorn on Wednesday as theCIBC Read to Succed program winds down for the 2011-12 regular season.
