WEEK IN REVIEW: The Amarillo Gorillas are 4-3 following back-to-back wins on home ice over the weekend. The Gorillas are second in the Northwest Division of the Northern Conference and trail the Tulsa Oilers.
GREAT DEBUTS: Forward Ben Maidment and defenseman Darren Curry made their debuts for the Amarillo Gorillas on Friday night. Curry, a rookie defenseman, potted his second goal of the season, while Maidment provided the heroics with the game-winning goal in the shootout as the Gorillas nipped the El Paso Buzzards 3-2. Amarillo led 2-1 after 20 minutes with Chris Robertson picking up the other Amarillo goal.
SHUTOUT GOALTENDING: Steve DeBus made 22 saves, while Darren Curry and Brandon Carper provided the offense as the Gorillas blanked the New Mexico Scorpions 2-0. The game featured some outstanding goaltending by DeBus as he stopped the New Mexico Scorpions time-and-time again during the contest. Several fights also highlighted the contest, including three by Dave Rattray, while Dorian Anneck had a couple of great open ice body checks.
HOMESTAND WRAPS UP: The Amarillo Gorillas close out a stretch of three consecutive homestands with a couple of games this weekend. The El Paso Buzzards come back to The Jungle at the Amarillo Civic Center for the second straight Friday at 7 p.m. Then on Saturday evening, the Gorillas welcome their division rivals the Tulsa Oilers for the first time this season.
GET YOUR MOTORS RUNNING: NASCAR fans will enjoy Saturday's game as Bobby Labonte's No. 18 Interstate Batteries Car will be at the Amarillo Civic Center. The first 1,000 fans will receive a megaphone courtesy of the Amarillo Town Club.
LONGEST ROAD TRIP AHEAD: The Amarillo Gorillas will embark on their longest road trip of the season next weekend when they travel to Indianapolis to face the Ice. Friday's game will be played at the Pepsi Coliseum, while Saturday's game is scheduled at Conseco Fieldhouse which also serves as the home for the NBA's Indiana Pacers. Face off for both games is 6 p.m. central (7 p.m. eastern).The Ice will make their lone appearance in Amarillo on Friday, Dec. 13 to conclude the scheduled three meetings this season..
BROADCAST SCHEDULE: Both of the Amarillo Gorillas games this weekend will be aired live on 1440 Am The Score, beginning with the pre-game shows at 6:40 p.m. Saturday night's game against the Tulsa Oilers will also be available on Cox Channel 18 at 7 p.m.
