New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE - The Central Hockey League announced today that New Mexico Scorpions center Chris Richards has been named the league's Player of the Month for October. The 27 year-old native of Cornwall, Ontario led the CHL with 14 points (6g-8a) during the Scorpions' six October games. He still tops the league with 15 points (7g-8a) in eight games.
Richards is tied for second in the league with seven goals, and tied for first with two game-winning goals (along with teammate Peter Ambroziak). He was one of the main reasons for the Scorpions' 5-0 start to the 2002-03 season, posting two goals and an assist against Lubbock on Oct. 19, a goal and three assists against Fort Worth on Oct. 26 and two goals including the overtime game-winner at Odessa on Oct. 29. Richards led the Scorpions in scoring last year with 27 goals and 66 points.
"It's great to see Chris honored for his play," said Scorpions Head Coach/Vice President of Hockey Operations Pat Dunn. "He has been our top player over the first eight games and come through for us time and time again since he joined us last year. I look forward to more of the same from him throughout the season."
