Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
BRYAN, TX - With Opening Day at Edible Field only a month away, players and coaches from all over the country begin to make their way into the BCS community. But one of the most important parts of the team already lives here - host families.
Every season, dozens of families open their doors to incoming players, fully immersing them in the community they play for. Providing a home away from home, the players are able to fully commit to baseball and not feel lonely doing so.
Deedee Leverett has been a host family for the past 4 years. Leverett has had 6 Bombers pass through her home in her time as a host. After her nephew, former Bomber Sean Arnold, got signed with the team one summer, Leverett said, she agreed to house him and some of his teammates. Leverett has been housing players ever since.
"It's a big commitment to have these players stay at your house," said Leverett. "You have to ensure that you can really be there for the players and understand that it's not just about giving them a bed to sleep on and a meal or two."
Host families form lifelong bonds with their players that go beyond the diamond, said Leverett, explaining how she had recently been invited to the wedding of one of the players she took in.
"They become more than baseball players," said Leverett. "They're family."
