July 4, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - Two goals in the second half gave the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (10-5-0) the victory over the Austin Aztex( 5-8-3). The result gives the Aztex their first loss on the season to their rival after defeating the Switchbacks twice earlier in the season.

Miguel Gonzalez scored two goals in the second half to secure a brace and give the Switchbacks another victory at Sand Creek Stadium, their sixth consecutive win in league play. The Aztex remain at 8^th place in the league standings, just four points behind the critical 6^th place spot that guarantees a playoff spot.

At the start of the match, the Aztex looked to pit their strength as a defensive unit versus the Switchbacks, who entered the match as the league's top offense with 31 goals scored on the season. Both teams worked to adjust to a water-logged field after storms forced the kickoff back one hour.

While Austin enjoyed a majority of possession in the opening half, the Switchbacks were able to break the stalemate early in the second half. Switchbacks forward Aaron King received the ball and worked it along the left side before hitting the ball back toward Miguel Gonzalez in front of the Aztex goal. Gonzalez hit the ball past Perales to give the Switchbacks the advantage in the second half.

The Aztex nearly equalized one minute later when Kris Tyrpak hit the ball across the face of the goal to find Drew Yates, who headed the ball back across goal past the goalkeeper. However, the shot attempt went just over the crossbar.

Gonzales would put the game away for the Switchbacks for good in the 80^th minute when he received a pass from Shintaro Harada and dribbled around Devin Perales to create an open goal. Gonzales would finish his chance to give the Switchbacks the decisive second goal of the match.

The Austin Aztex will look to continue their climb back into the playoff race with a road match versus Real Monarchs on Saturday, July 11 before returning back to Austin to take on Arizona United SC at Kelly Reeves on Friday, July 17.
