Austin Aztex News Release
AUSTIN, Texas (Tuesday, March 17, 2015) - The Austin Aztex have agreed to terms with the three most recent additions to the 2015 USL roster. The trio of players include Guaraci and Fernando Timbo, two former Coritiba FC players, along with Trevin Caesar, former member of the San Antonio Scorpions and current Trinidad and Tobago Men's National team player.
Guaraci, a 23-year-old midfielder, can be an explosive piece to the Aztex offense, as he has proved with his play during the Aztex preseason matchups. Originally from Sorocaba, Brazil, Guaraci most recently scoring twice during the opening 10 minutes versus the San Antonio Scorpions in the first edition of the Hill Country Derby. He previously also found the back of the net in a friendly against Southwestern University during their Aztex 5-0 win. The former Coritiba FC standout also appeared during the Aztex 1-0 win versus the Houston Dynamo, and faced more MLS competition in the ATX PRO Challenge.
Fernando Timbo, a 24-year-old defender, has spent most of his professional career in Brazil, playing for Coritiba FC from 2006 through 2013. At 6'1", Timbo brings a very physical presence to the Aztex defensive front with the ability to impose himself upon attackers and disrupt offensive plays. The left-footed Brazilian has been making appearances during Austin's preseason contests, putting on a great defensive effort to hold off the Houston Dynamo and help the Aztex come up with a 1-0 victory.
These two key signings were made possible thanks to the partnership established between the Austin Aztex and the Brazilian club Coritiba FC. The agreement allows the teams to promote an exchange between clubs. The Aztex front office and coaching staff spent time in Brazil with the club to gain valuable experience on the best practices on and off the field. Taking advantage of the partnership, Aztex goalkeeper Devin Perales spent part of the preseason training with the Coritiba FC coaching staff in Brazil.
Caesar, a 25-year-old forward, was part of the roster that lifted the NASL National Championship with the San Antonio Scorpions in 2014. He began his professional career in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago, playing for teams such as the Caledonia AIA. On top of his professional experience, he was called by Trinidad and Tobago's Men's national team Head Coach Stephen Hart, to represent his country's colors at the international level. Since the beginning of his professional career back in 2010, Caesar has scored a total of 31 goals, including five in international competitions.
These agreements bring the 2015 USL roster to 23 players.
The Aztex are now almost fully assembled and ready to host the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on March 28th at House Park for their season opener. Aztex fans can join the Aztex Originals club with the purchase of a season ticket by April 17, 2015. The Aztex Originals club will reward Aztex fans that are with the club from the beginning of its first professional season and can be joined by simply purchasing season tickets for as little as $99 for youth, and $175 for adults. A fan can claim their spot as an Aztex Original by calling 512-527-3048 or by visiting www.austinaztex.com.
