The Kingsport Axmen blanked the Burlington Sock Puppets by a final score of 7-0. The Axmen opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with a Jake Perry RBI single. No runs were scored in the second and third innings. Kingsport (23-9) added another run on an Aaron
The Kingsport Axmen blanked the Burlington Sock Puppets by a final score of 7-0.
The Axmen opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first with a Jake Perry RBI single. No runs were scored in the second and third innings.
Kingsport (23-9) added another run on an Aaron Casillas RBI single in the fourth inning. No runs were scored in the fifth and sixth innings.
Axmen starting RHP Ryan Murphy put on a clinic on the mound. Murphy (2-1, 1.69 ERA) pitched six shutout innings, recorded the win, allowed three hits, no walks and struck out seven batters.
The Axmen poured on five more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 7-0 lead.
Shea McGahan scored on a wild pitch, Ian Riley hit an RBI double, Corbin Shaw hit a two-RBI single and Perry scored Shaw on a sac fly.
Axmen reliever Liam O'Brien (S,1) picked up the save, throwing three scoreless innings. O'Brien finished with three innings pitched, allowed two hits, no walks and struck out three batters.
The bottom seven batters in the Burlington (25-9) lineup failed to record a hit.
The Axmen look to complete the series sweep over the Sock Puppets on Tuesday night.
