Avs sign Hinote along with McLean and Savage

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Avalanche announced today that the club has signed forward Dan Hinote to a one year deal. Per club policy terms of the contract were not announced. In addition, the Avalanche signed free agent forwards Brett McLean and Andre Savage.

Hinote, 27, appeared in 59 games with the Avalanche during the 2003-04 season. His 11 points were his third-highest total with the Avalanche while his seven assists were his second-highest total among his five seasons with the Avalanche organization. His two shorthanded goals last season led all Avalanche skaters and was a career-high.

"Dan Hinote is a product of our organization whose grit and determination has enabled him to contribute to our success over the last five years he's been here," said Avalanche President & General Manager Pierre Lacroix.

McLean, 25, a 5-11, 185-pound native of Comox, British Columbia played in his first full NHL season last year, averaging 17:33 of ice-time per game for the Chicago Blackhawks. His 11 goals and 20 assists in 76 games played were all NHL career-high marks. He recorded two shorthanded points in 2003-04 (one goal, one assist) leading all Blackhawks and his five power play goals were third-most with Chicago last season. His face-off winning percentage of 51.1 was second-best among Blackhawks last season.

"Brett's ability to take face-offs and contribute on special teams brings depth to our roster at the forward position," said Lacroix.

Savage, 29, a 6-0, 195-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario arrives in Colorado after having played last season with Providence and Philadelphia of the American Hockey League. A veteran of six professional seasons, Savage has played in 66 NHL games between Boston and Philadelphia since signing originally with Boston following a four-year career at Michigan Tech University where he became just the second player in school history to lead the team in scoring for three consecutive seasons (95-98) and was named a WCHA First Team All-Star in his senior season.
