Aviators score five in ninth to win

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Coastal Bend Aviators rallied with five runs in the ninth inning to defeat the San Angelo Colts 9-6 Tuesday night.

Aaron Mendoza hit a two-run homerun for San Angelo in the second inning making the score 3-0.

Stephen Morales brought the Aviators within a run in the third inning with a two-run single.

The Colts took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning when Jorge Alvarez had a two-run double.

The Aviators came within a run again in the sixth inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Ben Tinius and Angel Rohena making the score 5-4.

Down 6-4 in the ninth inning the Aviators appeared grounded when Justin Craker came in the game looking for his seventh save of the season. After Chris Judkins scored on a wild pitch Mike Guerrero hit a two-run single and the Aviators led 7-6. Morales added a RBI double and Jack Joffrion hit a RBI single making the score 9-6. The Aviators had six consecutive hits in the inning.

Shawn Morgan (2-0) pitched two perfect innings of relief and was rewarded with the win. Craker (0-1) took the loss for San Angelo.

The Aviators continue the three-game series at San Angelo Wednesday night at 7:05. The Aviators return home on May 31st to take on Pensacola in a three-game series.
