Unearned runs sink Sports
May 24, 2005 - Central Baseball League (Central League)
Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Edinburg Roadrunners scored two un-earned runs in the eighth inning as they handed the Shreveport Sports a 4-3 loss Tuesday night at Fair Grounds Field. A two-out error on Shreveport shortstop Enohel Polanco allowed the tying run to score and then Eddie Lara's two-out single provided the winning tally for the Roadrunners.
Edinburg had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning when the Sports committed the first of three errors in the game. However, the Sports came back and tied the game in the second inning on a two-out double by Coby Smith. Shreveport took the lead in the fourth on a solo home run by Chad Gambill. The Sports added another run in the sixth on a two-out single by Jason Torres. Edinburg cut the Shreveport lead to one run with a single run in the seventh, without a base hit. A walk, hit batter, sacrifice bunt and infield out provided the run for the Roadrunners, who are the defending Central League champions.
Shreveport and Edinburg will meet in the second game of the three-game series Wednesday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 7:05.
