Lubbock GunSlingers News Release
The Lubbock Lone Stars have beaten every team in the IFL but one. The Corpus Christi Hammerheads are the only team with a perfect record over the Lone Stars (1-0). The teams have only played one time back in week four (game 3) in Corpus, and it was as close as any game this season in the IFL.
With just a few seconds on the clock and trailing by seven the Lone Stars got a big 40 yard kickoff return from Louis Fite down to the Hammerhead's 10 yard line. Lubbock would get just a couple of plays to try to punch it in for a possible win or tie.
But after the referees miss spotted the ball at the five, and then reset it down to the 2 after a pass interference call, it was too late for Lubbock to call a different play. The Lone Stars would call a short pass to Raymond Hardy on a quick hitch. But a defensive lineman was able to get his hands on the ball, deflecting it, and ending the game with a 56-49 Hammerheads victory.
The Lone Stars remember that contest and remember the way the Hammerheads treated the visiting team. This week the Lone Stars get a chance to return the favor and tie the series up at 1-1.
Corpus comes to Lubbock tied for third place in the IFL Standings with the Lone Stars. The teams will play again in week 16 (game 15) Corpus Christi.
