Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Ingram, the Avengers' leading receiver who fractured his right thumb in last week's game, has been placed on the Arena Football League's injured reserve list, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

Ingram, who leads the team with 95 receptions (No. 4 in the AFL), 1,323 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns, underwent surgery yesterday and will miss at least four games.

The Avengers (5-5) host the Georgia Force (9-1) at STAPLES Center tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

Ingram, who has missed only three previous games in his six seasons with the Avengers, is second on the team's all-time receptions list with 427 catches for 5,030 yards and 115 touchdowns. He also is L.A.'s all-time leader in interceptions with 24. Ingram, the 2005 "AFL Ironman of the Year," is a three-time All-Arena selection.

Rookie wide receiver Nichiren Flowers (6-foot-2, 205 pounds), who was activated off injured reserve today, will take Ingram's place on the Avengers' active roster.

Defensive back James Bethea, a rookie who started the first six games of the season before being placed on injured reserve, was also activated today.

In addition, the Avengers have signed wide receiver Leo Bookman (6-2, 215) to their practice squad. He spent last season on the practice squad of the Oakland Raiders. Bookman was released by the Raiders last month. After playing defensive back and wide receiver for a couple seasons at the University of Kansas, Bookman put football on hold temporarily to pursue a career in track & field.
