June 14, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Avenger wide receiver/defensive back Brian Sump was among four players signed to one-year contracts by the National Football League's St. Louis Rams today.

Sump (5-foot-11, 185 pounds), who did not see any action during his rookie Arena Football League season in 2004, spending most of it on the injured reserve list, will be a wide receiver and kick returner for St. Louis.

He got his feet wet in the NFL last year. Sump signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers on April 28, 2003. He performed well in training camp and played in three preseason games, returning six punts for 29 yards, but was released on Aug. 26, in one of the team's final roster reductions.

Sump enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at the Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colo.), playing in 39 games and setting 23 school records, including career marks for receptions (146), receiving yards (2,464), receiving touchdowns (24), all-purpose yards (5,529), punt return yardage (717), kickoff return yardage (2,384) and kick return touchdowns (five).

The Rams also inked defensive back Nijrell Eason, punter Jesse Nicassio and linebacker Fred Pagac.

The Avengers went 9-7 this past season and qualified for the ArenaBowl Playoffs for a third consecutive year.

Fifty dollar deposits for 2005 Avenger season tickets are now being accepted at 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
