ORLANDO, Fla. (June 14) -- Record-setting receiver Cory Fleming will remain a Predator for the time being, inking a new contract that will keep him with the Arena Football League team through the 2006 season.
Fleming, who is considered a top candidate for the AFL's coveted "Ironman of the Year" award, is coming off a monster season where he set Orlando Predators single season records for receptions (131), receiving yards (1,620), and receiving touchdowns (33).
He had a tremendous impact on both sides of the ball and on special teams, recording 18 tackles with 1 TFL, 1 quarterback sack, 1 interception and three pass defenses. As the "up-back" on kickoff returns, Fleming returned nine kicks for 119 yards and one touchdown. He led the team in scoring with 210 points and averaged more than 108 all-purpose yards per game, leading the team with 1,740 yards. Fleming also had at least one touchdown receiving in all 16 regular season games.
"Without question, Cory was our most consistent performer over the entire 2004 season," Orlando Head Coach Jay Gruden said. "We are delighted that he will remain a Predator for the next two seasons."
