Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES - Even though it is their day off, Avenger players regularly take part in "Double Days" ... the team's community outreach program that makes visits to schools and/or hospitals each week.

On Friday, defensive back James Bethea, wide receiver/linebacker LaShaun Ward and "A-Team" dancers Pennee and Tiffany spent the morning visiting with patients and their families at the Shriners Hospitals For Children in Los Angeles. Later in the day, Bethea and Ward spent the afternoon visiting with patients and their families at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach.

"Visiting with these kids today puts everything in perspective," Ward said. "It means a lot to these children and their families for us to come and visit."

At the hospitals, the Avenger representatives took the opportunity to visit the rooms of various patients throughout the hospitals, sign autographs and posed for pictures with the patients and their families.

Shriners Hospitals for Children first opened in 1952 and during its history has assisted in providing life changing medical and surgical services to more than 36,000 children. All medical care has been and continues to be provided completely free of charge to children and their families.

For more information on Shriners Hospitals for Children please visit their website at www.shrinershq.org/shc/losangeles or call (213) 388-3151.

Miller Children's Hospital has been providing a complete range of primary and specialty care for children of all ages, from newborns to young adults, for more than 30 years. The hospital was established in 1970 at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in recognition that, as hospital patients, children often have very different needs and requirements than adults.

Miller Children's Hospital is one of only two children's hospitals in Los Angeles County. It has cultivated a regional and national reputation for quality of care and compassionate medical and nursing staff.
