
Storm activate three, acquire another

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have acquired defensive lineman Tim McGill from Nashville in exchange for receiver Demetris Bendross, activated receiver Karl Williams from the practice squad, signed kicker Seth Marler and signed lineman Geir Gudmundsen to the practice squad, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced today. The team also waived kicker Matt Leach.
Williams, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver and prolific return man from Texas A&M - Kingsville, is a nine-year veteran of the National Football League and will make his Arena Football League debut against the Georgia Force after the Storm activated him from the practice squad on Thursday. He played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996-03 and with the Arizona Cardinals in 2004.
Marler, a 6-1, 200-pound kicker from the University of Tulane will make his AFL debut on Saturday. Marler has three years of NFL experience with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-05. He spent the 2006 preseason with the Atlanta Falcons. He won the Lou Groza award given to the nations top kicker his junior season with the Green Wave.
McGill, a 6-2, 330-pound defensive lineman, has three years of AFL experience with 28 career tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. He has spent time on practice squads and in training camps with the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. A pass-rush specialist, he attended the University of Illinois.
Gudmundsen, a 6-4, 315-pound lineman from Albany State, spent the 2006 season on the practice squad of the New York Dragons. Initially signed to the Storm practice squad Thursday afternoon, Gudmendsen was activated today as the Storm placed lineman Dwayne Morgan on injured reserve with an injury to his left knee. Gudmundsen spent 2005 in training camp with the Buffalo Bills. He was named Division I-AA Football Mid-Major Performer of the Year as well as the Division I-AA All-America Squad Team Captain as a senior.
The 2007 Storm season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sports Lives, returns to the St. Pete Times Forum on Saturday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. as the Tampa Bay Storm take on Southern Division Rival Georgia Force.
