Woodbridge, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, allowed just six base runners in earning its second win of the season Monday night. The Avs thumped the Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium 8-0.
Starter Brad James faced trouble with two outs in the first inning when he walked back-to-back batters after a Dee Brown infield single. With the bases loaded, though, James struck Edgardo Baez out on a 3-2 pitch to end the threat.
After that, only one man reached against the righty from Prosper, Texas. 13 of the 14 non-strikeout outs James recorded were ground balls.
Offensively, Salem cracked the scoreboard in five separate innings. Josh Flores, Ole Sheldon and Ryan Reed all totaled three hits while Mark Ori and Billy Hart each contributed a pair of safeties.
The Avalanche stole two bases tonight to push its league-leading total to 15.
Tuesday is the second of four with Potomac at 7:35 PM. Sergio Perez starts for the Avs while Potomac sends Clint Everts to the bump. You can find every pitch on WWWR Radio or via the web at www.salemavalanche.com and milb.com.
