Avaiators run over the Roadrunners
ROBSTOWN, Texas -Aviators pounded out 16 hits in the 18-7 win vs. Edinburg. After losing 8-7 in 12 innings, the Aviators were back at home picking up their first win in the second half of the season.
Dan Henderson entered the game in the fifth inning, shutting down the Roadrunners after Matt Rohr surrendered six runs in the first four innings. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Aviators put up a six spot to tie the game. Jack Joffrion and Mike Guerrero both homered in the six run inning. Henderson picked up his second win of the season, holding Edinburg scoreless through three frames.
The Aviator bats came alive as hitters one through nine each recorded at least one hit. Ben Tinius and Matt Mann led the hit parade going three for five each.
The Edinburg pitching staff depleted their bullpen sending in four relievers. The quartet gave twelve runs with Jose Munoz harnessing the loss. After retiring the first two hitters he faced in the sixth inning, Coastal Bend pushed across six runs off of four hits and two walks.
Bryan Heaston entered to record the final out, but not before the Aviators scored two more runs capping the eight run sixth. Roel Garza faired no better, allowing four runs to cross in the seventh.
The Aviators mercifully let Edinburg off the hook in the scoreless eighth, as Brandon Pello finished the game on the hill in a mop up role.
The Aviators will look to tie the series tomorrow night here at home before going on the road to face the San Angelo Colts.
Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday with draft beer for $1. Tickets are available through the Aviator's website, www.aviatorsbaseball.com or call (361) 387-8585. All games are broadcast on KCCT 1150 AM, and the Aviators website.
