Augusta Rallies for Win over West Virginia

Charleston, WV - The GreenJackets (3-4) won their second straight game with a 4-3 come from behind win over the West Virginia Power (2-5) Wednesday afternoon. Daryl Maday worked four shutout innings in relief for the win and Augusta was helped out by three errors in the ninth inning by the Power defense as Augusta plated two runs to take the lead.

Trailing 3-2 in the ninth with one out, James Simmons reached second base on a two base throwing error from Power shortstop Brent Brewer. Angel Villalona came up next as a pinch hitter and hit a chopping ball to Brewer and the shortstop miss played the ball allowing Simmons to score to tie the game. On the play, left fielder Kurt Crowell overran the ball allowing Villalona to advance to second.

Charlie Culberson entered the game as a pinch runner and moved up to third with a stolen base. Culberson then scored the go-ahead run on an RBI sac-fly to left from Nick Noonan.

Maday (1-1) allowed just one hit over his four shutout innings, did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Augusta trailed 3-0 after two innings but got single runs in the third and sixth inning to pull within one. Brock Bond connected for an RBI ground out in the third inning scoring Simmons and Ramon Corona delivered with an RBI sac-fly to center in the sixth scoring Noonan.

GreenJackets starter Steven Calicutt got the no-decision working five innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits. The lefty walked one and struck out three.

West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a one-out RBI single from Caleb Gindl then added two more runs in the second on a two-run homer from Curt Rindal for a 3-0 lead.

The GreenJackets and Power finish up their series on Thursday night with Augusta sending right-hander Oliver Odle (0-0, 0.00) to the hill. The Power counter with right-hander Even Anundsen (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Thomas Neal extended his hit streak to seven games with as ingle in the eighth inning.

The GreenJackets rallied back from three runs down, their largest margin of the season.

It was the second straight game Augusta rallied for a win.

Daryl Maday retired the final nine batters he faced.

James Simmons and Brock Bond each finished with two hits
