SEA DOGS RALLY FOR WIN - The Portland Sea Dogs rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 6-5 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels yesterday afternoon. In the top of the first, Michael Gigliotti led off the game with a single. Tyler Fitzgerald drove him home with a double to left field, giving the Flying Squirrels a 1-0 lead. One out later, Brett Auerbach grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Fitzgerald, increasing Richmond's lead to 2-0. Jacob Heyward led off the second inning with a solo home run and put Richmond up 3-0.Ceddanne Rafaela blasted a solo homer over the Maine Monster in left field and brought Portland with two runs, 3-1. After four scoreless innings for both teams, Richmond drove in two more runs in the top of the eighth. Fitzgerald led off with a base hit and Auerbach walked. Brandon Martorano doubled to center, plating Fitzgerald and Auerbach, adding to their lead, 5-1. In the eighth, Christian Koss led off with a single to left. Hudson Potts grounded into a fielder's choice at second, and the relay to first was wide and found its way into the first base dugout, moving Potts to second. Izzy Wilson doubled down the right field line, scoring Potts to make it a 5-2 game. Nick Northcut was hit by a pitch and Tyler Dearden doubled to left, bringing in Wilson, cutting into Richmond's lead 5-3. Wilyer Abreu pinch hit for Cameron Cannon and singled to right, scoring Northcut and advancing Dearden to third, making it 5-4. Wil Dalton blooped a base hit into center to drive in Dearden and tie the game, 5-5. Elih Marrero singled on a grounder to first base, bringing around Abreu to give the Sea Dogs a 6-5 lead.

DEARDEN STAYS HOT - With a double yesterday, Tyler Dearden extending his on base streak to 14 games. During that time he is hitting .370 with five doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and nine walks. His on base percentage is currently at .482.

WILSON IS ALSO A THREAT - Izzy Wilson is riding a seven game on base streak for the Sea Dogs. He is 7-for-22 (.318) with one double and two home runs during the streak. He also has four RBI and three walks and owns a .400 on base percentage.

GETTYS THE CLOSER - Michael Gettys earned his second save of the season yesterday for Portland. Despite the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning in a one run game with two outs, he struck out Brett Auerbach for the final out of the game. Gettys' first save for the Sea Dogs was 8/5 against the Erie SeaWolves. He is currently still riding an eight game shutout streak that has spanned 9.0 innings with just six hits allowed.

STILL TOP DOGS - The Sea Dogs continue to sit atop the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. With the victory yesterday, Portland now has a 1.5 game lead over the second place Somerset Patriots and lead the third place Hartford Yard Goats by 2.5 games. In the Southwest Division, the Bowie Baysox are in first place, 1.0 game ahead of the Erie SeaWolves.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - August 12, 2008 - Iggy Suarez delivered a bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning, leading the Sea Dogs to a 4-3, walk-off win over the Altoona Curve on Tuesday night. Portland trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning but scored two runs off Curve closer Ronald Belisario.

PITCHING MATCHUP - Boston Red Sox No. 8 Prospect Bryan Mata will take the mound tonight for the Sea Dogs. He last pitched on August 6th vs Erie and tossed 5.2 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits while walking five and striking out six. He has not faced the Flying Squirrels yet this season.
