Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has picked University of South Carolina defender Greg Reece in the USL First Division player draft. Reece, 6-3, 190, was selected as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 and also made the All-South Region first team. The Charleston Battery received one pick in the second round of the USL First Division draft after trading its first round pick to the Rochester Raging Rhinos.
A native of Clemmons, NC, Reece, 22, was a three-year starter and two-year team captain for the Gamecocks. Reece played 66 games for USC, scoring 4 goals and adding 2 assists. During his college career the Gamecocks recorded 22 shutouts and played in three NCAA Tournaments.
The Charleston Battery will open its 2006 regular season campaign at home on April 9 with a match versus the Virginia Beach Mariners; kick off is set for 7:30 PM.
