Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Owen Sound, ON- The Owen Sound Attack won their third game in a row and ended the Majors win streak at six, with a 4-1 win at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre tonight. The loss drops Mississauga to 11-4-0-0 on the season.

Mississauga and Owen Sound are two teams in different situations, the Majors are Eastern Conference contenders; while the Attack will be fighting for a playoff spot come March. However the teams played the opposite of one another tonight. After a slow start last night at home, the Majors came out of the gate slow once again and it would cost them. Jason Wilson opened the scoring for the Attack just under eight minutes into the opening period to put Owen Sound ahead 1-0 and that's how the period would end. The Majors had two power play opportunities in the opening period and could not capitalize on the man advantage. Owen Sound was equally as ineffective on the power play, failing to convert on three opportunities.

Owen Sound came out strong to start the second when Garrett Wilson put the Attack ahead by two just over two minutes into the period. Both teams failed on the power play yet again in the second, on one attempt each. The Majors have shown the ability to come back in games this season however just 37 seconds into the third period Marcus Carroll put the Attack in firm control with his twelfth goal of the season, set-up by former Major Mike McGurk. Mike Halmo added his name to the score sheet just over seven minutes later; giving Owen Sound a 4-0 lead. The Majors had a goal called back late in the third period after a booth review that showed the puck went off William Wallen's skate. Mississauga would have another goal reviewed after Josh McFadden's shot went just under goaltender Scott Stajcer's arm; the goal light went off and the goal stood cutting the lead to 4-1 with just under two minutes left in regulation. However, that's how it would end. Jason Wilson and Marcus Carroll added an assist each in addition to their goals, while defenceman Milan Doczy picked up two assists for Owen Sound. Scott Stajcer made 43 saves for Owen Sound to record his sixth win of the year and received "First Star" honours on the night. J.P. Anderson got the start for the Majors, making 25 saves and was handed only his second loss of the season. Both teams finished 0/6 on the power play.

The Majors will have the opportunity to get back into the win column tomorrow afternoon when the Sudbury Wolves come to town. Puck drop is set for 2:00 P.M.
