Atlético Ottawa were back on the road for the first of three matches, starting with a matchup against FC Edmonton at Clarke Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Despite a strong showing by the men in red and white, Ottawa stumbled in a 1-0 loss to energetic Eddies.

KEY MOMENTS

This was the second match of the week for Atlético Ottawa, following a 0-0 at home on Tuesday against York United, Ottawa made their way West to face Edmonton for the second time this season.

Ottawa started on the front foot, dictating play for most of the first half, establishing a solid midfield and spending loads of time in the opponents' half.

While Atleti created 11 shots, only one of those attempts was on target.

With its maintained aggression, Ottawa earned 12 corners over the 90 minutes.

A bright stat on the day for Ottawa, one that is on par with Head Coach Carlos Gonzalez's expected style of play, was the passing game.

Atlético Ottawa linked up for 478 passes, 400 of those accurate, maintaining an 83,7% accuracy rate.

At the heart of this success were central defenders Diego Espejo (99 passes) and Abdou Sissoko (75 passes).

Head Coach Gonzalez did mention in the post-match press conference that while numbers were positive, he wishes to see his squad build from the back but rely more on midfield and forward play to be successful.

Notwithstanding today's loss, Atlético Ottawa remains in third place in the CPL standings, only two points off the top and in firm playoff contention after a third of the 2022 campaign.

Blessing in disguise, Ottawa returns home to train and shake this misstep off as they prepare for their next road match scheduled for Thursday, June 30th in Halifax.
