Atlético Ottawa ended the season on a high with a victory away to Ontario rivals, and second-placed side Forge FC in Hamilton on Saturday evening. A first Canadian Premier League goal for CF Montréal loanee Ilias Iliadis was enough to secure all three points, but it wasn't enough for Atlético to earn a spot in the 2023 playoffs as Ottawa's season comes to an early end on the final weekend.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa finished the 2023 CPL season in 6th place following a 1-0 win over Forge FC.

CF Montréal loanee Ilias Iliadis scored the only goal of the game, winning the ball high up the field before calmly slotting it beyond Triston Henry in the Forge net (54').

The clean sheet was goalkeeper Nathan Ingham's sixth of the season.

Ottawa entered the match with "nothing to lose" as rivals York United confirmed itself as the final playoff team on Friday night with a victory over Vancouver FC.

Atlético looked the more dangerous side for large portions of the match, creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities.

Striker Rubén del Campo, who was impressive throughout, was denied a first CPL by two superb first-half saves from Henry.

Iliadis was a stand-out player on the night with a comprehensive display in the middle of the park.

The 22-year-old led the team in shots (3), shots on target (2), big chances (1), dribbles (3), interceptions (2) possessions won (6).

This was only the second time in club history that Atlético Ottawa has beaten Forge.

Both victories came at Tim Horton's Field and by the score of 1-0.

Ollie Bassett, defending Player and Players' Player of the Year, finished the season with 11 goals and three assists.

Bassett tied with Cavalry striker Myer Bevan in the Golden Boot race.

The award will be shared by the two players.

Playoffs at a glance:

The top five teams qualify for the postseason.

Atlético has finished in 6th place with 36 points from 28 matches.

York United's victory on Friday night over Vancouver FC confirmed their spot in the post-season with 38 points from 28 matches.

Pacific FC finished 4th (40 points), Halifax Wanderers came in 3rd place (42 points), Forge FC secured 2nd (42 points) and Cavalry FC finished top of the table (55 points).

Cavalry has been crowned Canadian Premier League Regular Season Winners and have qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
