Atlético Ottawa End Knotted up with York United
April 29, 2022 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa headed on the road for the first time this season on Friday evening as they faced York United in a choppy 2-2 draw. With one more point in the bank, Head Coach Carlos González's men remain in second place in the standing after four weeks of action in the Canadian Premier League.
KEY MOMENTS
After a disjointed start, Atlético Ottawa found the rhythm they showed in the first two matches of the season, putting pressure on York's backline and creating chances to break into the last third with more consistency.
The flow was evident on Ottawa's first goal, with Brian Wright scoring his second goal of the season, off of a brilliant pass from Zach Verhoven (51').
Ballou Tabla made the most of a strange lapse from York to collect his first goal in the Canadian Premier League (86'). The young promising talent has been growing in conviction with every minute played, and tonight's showing earned him the OneSoccer Gatorade Performance of the Match.
MacDonald Niba made his return to the starting lineup at the middle of the defence, showing strong awareness and good connection with Ingham in front of net all evening.
After the unsettling result of the previous match (6 goals conceded), Nathan Ingham showed no lack of confidence or shakiness and reminded the league why he is the current clean sheet leader (2). Unlucky in surrendering one goal to York United on a PK and a second on a last-minute chaotic set play, he was otherwise solid between the pipes.
Diego Espejo and Miguel Acosta, unfortunately, banged heads in the early minutes of the match fighting for a ball, which led to an early exit for Espejo. Acosta, once bandaged up, returned to the pitch and remained bright throughout the first half, leaving early in the second due to apparent discomfort. Further medical assessments will be conducted and both players will benefit from the full week before next Saturday's match.
Atlético Ottawa returns home on Saturday, May 7th for the Mother's Day Match. To celebrate mamas of all types, a special "buy 1, get one free for mom" ticket offer is available at atleticoottawa.club.
