Atlanta United FC News Release

ATLANTA - Atlanta United will travel to play Charleston Battery (USL Championship) in the Round of 16 of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 21 at Patriots Point Soccer Complex in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the match will be streamed at usopencup.com.

Atlanta was placed into the Alonso Division, named after four-time Open Cup champion and former Atlanta United player Ozzie Alonso, alongside Charlotte Independence (USL League One), Charleston Battery and South Georgia Tormenta FC (USL League One). If Atlanta wins its Round of 16 matchup, another draw will be held to determine its next opponent. MLS teams will only play lower division opponents until it cannot be avoided, enhancing the tournament's drama and appeal.

Atlanta United is coming off a 3-0 win over Charlotte Independence in the Round of 32, which was held at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw. Midfielder Nick Firmino scored a brace while Daniel Ríos claimed a goal of his own to help lift the 5-Stripes over Charlotte. Charleston advanced to play Atlanta following a 3-2 extra time victory over South Georgia Tormenta FC. Atlanta United holds a 3-0-0 record over Charleston in the U.S. Open Cup, with the last matchup between the two sides ending in a 3-1 extra-time victory for Atlanta in the Round of 32 in 2019.

Atlanta United (3-4-3, 12 points) returns to MLS Regular Season play Saturday, May 11 when it hosts D.C. United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass, 92.9 The Game, La Mejor) in MLS Regular Season play. All Atlanta United MLS matches are available with an MLS Season Pass subscription, located on the Apple TV app.
