FC Tulsa News Release

ATLANTA - Sometimes, it's really just not your night.

Atlanta United 2 took advantage of their parent club, fielding six MLS players in its starting lineup, in a 5-0 rout of FC Tulsa on Wednesday night. The humbling result broke FC Tulsa's perfect start to the 2021 campaign and the club record 10-match unbeaten streak it had been riding since the 2020 season.

The first four goals came in the final 11 minutes of the first half as Atlanta United 2 shocked FC Tulsa, who gave up more than two goals for the first time in the FC Tulsa era of the franchise.

Three different shots off the post, plus a second yellow card issued to defender Jorge Corrales in the 68' minute, prevented any sort of comeback from FC Tulsa as Rodrigo da Costa, Marlon Santos and Jerome Kiesewetter all hit the woodwork.

GOALS

35' ATL - Chris Allan

36' ATL - Aiden McFadden (Connor Stanley)

39' ATL - Aiden McFadden

45'+2 ATL - Tyler Wolff (Darwin Matheus)

80' ATL - Coleman Gannon (William Reilly)

MLS ADVANTAGE

Atlanta United FC decided to use Wednesday night's ATL UTD 2 match to give its MLS reserves some minutes, with FC Tulsa the unlucky opponent. With MLS Atlanta not in action until Sunday, the Five Stripes sent eight MLS players to play for Atlanta United 2, including six that made the Starting XI.

STREAK BROKEN

FC Tulsa had compiled a six-match regular season winning streak and 10-match unbeaten run before running into Atlanta United 2 on Wednesday night. Both were the longest in franchise history.

AN UNWELCOME FIRST

In allowing four goals, FC Tulsa conceded more than two goals for the first time in the FC Tulsa era. Previously, FC Tulsa had allowed multiple goals (all two) just four times in its previous 18 regular season matches, all in 2020.

RED FOR CORRALES

Defender Jorge Corrales picked up two yellow cards, his second coming in the 68' minute, sending off the Cuban. Corrales will be suspended for Tulsa's next match against Sporting Kansas City II on June 2.

CUNNINGHAM MAKES DEBUT

FC Tulsa forward Michael Cunningham made his club debut in the loss, playing the final 16 minutes of the match. Cunningham earned his place on the team as a trialist during preseason, impressing Coach Nsien and the coaching staff enough to offer the England native a professional contract.

UP NEXT

FC Tulsa will have to stew on the loss for two weeks before taking the pitch again on June 2 at Sporting Kansas City II. The two-week gap between matches is the longest break of the season for the club.
