Atlanta Rivalry Match for Last Home Game at the Gold Mine
METAIRIE, LA - On Saturday, June 5 the NOLA Gold will take on rival Rugby ATL for their last 2021 regular-season home game at The Gold Mine on Airline.
Before the game, there will be a Clesi's Crawfish Boil at The Gold Mine with live music from '90s band "Sounds Like Teen Spirit", and after the game, there will be a firework show.
The NOLA Gold will enjoy a BYE Week in Week 11 after pulling off a big victory (29-25) against the Utah Warriors this past Saturday:
Julian Dominguez got the Gold on the board early (5'), stiff-arming a defender and diving into the try zone in dramatic fashion.
Utah got three points on the board from a penalty kick (9'), but soon after, Pat O'Toole scored an electric try-stealing the ball from Utah as they attempted a line-out at the 5-meter line, and flying into the try zone.
Utah managed to score two tries (20', 34') taking the lead 17-12.
NOLA seemed to take the lead with just minutes remaining in the first half (37'), but their try was waived off-Pat O'Toole got the ball back after a short line-out and barreled his way down the sideline from the 22-meter line. The initial line-out pass was within 5-meters of the sideline, however, and therefore illegal.
NOLA managed to score another three points from a penalty kick (40'), and the half came to a close 17-15.
In the second half, the Gold scored the first try-this time off a maul from the 5-meter line with Pat O'Toole at the bottom of the pile (46').
About 10 minutes later, Damian Stevens kicked for position from the mid-field line-Tim Maupin sprinted down the field and grabbed the ball out of the air off a high bounce within the 22-meter line.
NOLA was given an advantage by the referee and the Gold came rushing down the field in support before the Warriors had a chance to set their defense, the ball was thrown to a trailing Kyle Rogers who finished off the try (58').
The Warriors were given a yellow card for a high tackle after the try was scored.
Utah managed to come within 5 points of the Gold after scoring a try off a maul (73') but the Gold's defense stayed resilient, and the game ended 29-24 in the Gold's favor.
The Gold Mine erupted, and fireworks lit up the sky.
NOLA Gold General Manager Ryan Fitzgerald had this to say after the game:
"From our entire NOLA Gold staff and players, we can not say Thank you enough for all the support from our fans. The Goldmine was electric last night and the players felt it, especially down the stretch. The Hogs for The Cause Pig-tailgate, Military Appreciation Night, and a Win... it was a special night. Our Men in Gold put it all on the line last night and our fans were the heartbeat. Thank you all, and See you June 5th!
