Atlanta Assigns 11 Players to Wolves

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned 11 players to the Chicago Wolves, including forwards STEPHEN BABY (BAH-bee), KEVIN DOELL (DOLE) and CORY LAROSE, all members of the 2005 Western Conference Championship squad.

In addition, the Thrashers assigned forwards GUILLAUME DESBIENS (ghee-OHM day-BYEHN), CHAD PAINCHAUD (PAYN-show), BRAD SCHELL (SHELL) and ADAM SMYTH, defensemen LANE MANSON and JIMMY SHARROW (SHARE-oh) and goaltenders DAVE CARUSO and DAN TURPLE.

BABY, a Chicago native, registered a career-high 15 assists and 22 points in 39 games with the Wolves last season. Overall, the 26-year-old forward has collected 57 points (27G, 30A) and 231 penalty minutes in 171 career tilts with Chicago.

DOELL finished third on the Wolves last season with an American Hockey League career-high 34 assists and shared third with an AHL career-best 51 points in 78 contests. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native has appeared in 131 games with Chicago over the past three seasons, posting 65 points (22G, 43A) and 147 penalty minutes.

LAROSE spent last season with Langnau of the Swiss National League where he paced the squad with 17 goals and ranked second with 31 points in 42 outings. The 31-year-old forward held second on the Wolves with 63 points - one shy of matching a career-high - in 80 games during the 2004-05 season. He tied for first on the squad and 11th in the AHL with 12 points (6G, 6A) in 18 postseason tilts during Chicago's run to the 2005 Calder Cup Finals.

SCHELL notched one goal, two assists and three points in 10 games spanning two stints with the Wolves last season. He paced the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators with 56 assists, a +32 plus/minus rating and 242 shots and ranked second with 79 points in 59 contests last year.

TURPLE wrapped up a four-year Ontario Hockey League career last season by leading league goaltenders with seven shutouts, a 2.25 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in 57 games with the Kitchener Rangers. Turple, who was the Thrashers' sixth pick, 186th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, ranked second in the OHL with a career-best 40 wins last year.
