Asumnu Scores Career High 28 in Win Over Toros

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Stanley Asumnu scored a career high 28 points and tallied 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season as he led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to a 119-108 victory over the Austin Toros Friday night at the Cedar Park Center. The Vipers (6-4) now lead the season series over Austin (5-3) two games to one. The win also broke Austin's three game home win-streak.

The Vipers led for a majority of the game as there were only two lead changes in the game. The Toros took a 21-14 advantage with 4:24 remaining in the opening quarter after Tristan Thompson's jumper. The Vipers responded by closing out the quarter on a 13-3 run to take a 27-24 lead after one.

Suleimon Braimoh 's lay-up with the 3:51 remaining in the half pushed the RGV lead up to 11 at 50-39. The Vipers took a 58-50 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Vipers maintained control for much of the third quarter as well. Lee Humphrey's three-pointer with 2:00 remaining int he third seemingly put the game out of reach as it increased the Vipers lead to 22 at 95-73.

The Toros rallied in the fourth as they began the period with a 12-5 run to close the game to 104-90. Stefan Welsh's three-pointer with 2:03 remaining in the game closed the Austin deficit to six at 112-106. The rally was for naught as the Vipers closed out the game on a 7-2 run to earn the 11 point victory.

Humphrey chipped in with 23 points on 7-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Julian Sensley, who played for Rio Grande Valley on the 2010 championship squad, scored 13 points with seven rebounds in his return.

Thompson scored 22 to lead the offensive output for the Toros.Terrence Woodbury (16 points), Myles McKay (16 points), and Solomon Bozeman (11 points) rounded out the Toros' double digit scorers on the evening.

The Vipers continue their road swing on Saturday as they face their Western Conference rival Texas Legends. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
