San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - Ezequiel Astacio was on top of his game Friday as the San Angelo Colts defeated the Amarillo Dillas 4-1 from Foster Field. Astacio struck out 11 Dillas batters over seven innings of work as the Colts picked up their third-straight win over the two-time defending ULB Champions.
Astacio started early by striking out the side in the first inning. He would strike out at least one batter in each of his seven frames of work while allowing only two hits and one run. The win raised his record to 2-2.
The Colts drew first blood in the third inning as second baseman Mark Ramos singled in centerfielder Ronnie Gaines to make the score 1-0. However, the Dillas would even things up on a solo homer by third baseman Carlos Figueroa (2) to tie things up.
The game stayed that way into the seventh as Astacio and Dillas lefty Robert Lowe matched each other zero for zero. Reliever Brent Buffa entered the game in the seventh for Amarillo, setting the stage for the Colts. With runners at first and second and one out, first baseman Josh Collazzo came to the plate and smacked a single to bring in Gaines and give the Colts a 2-1 lead. San Angelo would add another run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to third baseman Mike Pettibone, which scored designated hitter Jason Landreth. San Angelo's final run came on a throwing error in the eighth to make the final score 4-1.
After Astacio left, relievers Bryan Heaston and Mike Hacker each recorded a scoreless inning to nail down the win for San Angelo. Hacker picked up the save (1) as Colts pitching held the Dillas to only three hits for the evening.
Buffa suffered the loss for Amarillo to fall to 2-1.
The Colts and Dillas will face each other in game three of their four-game series tomorrow at 7:05. Brian Henschel (1-1, 3.72 ERA) will face Richard Jessup (0-1, 14.40 ERA) of the Dillas.
