Ask the CEO
February 1, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Question from Murray W, Rochester, NY: "Where will the Final 8 playoffs be held this year? Would you consider coming back to Rochester?"
Answer: Murray. Thank you for the email. The arena in Rochester is an excellent facility and the fans in Rochester showed great support for last season's Great 8 Tournament. However, this year, we've decided to go back to the format we used two years ago with the highest seed in the tournament having the final playoff game. We had nearly 15,000 people in Arkansas for the final game with this format. Next year, we'll go back to last season's format and will do the Finals in Quebec City as part of the city's 400th birthday celebration. After that, we'll adopt the better of the two formats.
The Power Rankings are very important as the top 24 teams will compete in this year's playoffs and there are about 35 teams competing for a position. February should be a very interesting month. Rochester has a good team; who knows, they could end up hosting the final game anyway. Thanks for the question. If you have a question, please email joenewman@abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
