The international break features some crucial contests between global giants as well as the FA Women's Super League in England
While the major men's club leagues around the world are on a pause due to the first international break of 2020, national teams including all the global powerhouses will be in action this weekend as well as some massive club matchups in the women's game.
While some of the upcoming clashes between national teams are just international friendlies, a handful have a whole lot riding on them - including bids to Qatar 2022 and next summer's Euro tournament.
The United States Men's National Team already played out one of its two friendlies on Thursday - a 0-0 draw in against Wales in Swansea's Liberty Stadium - but history was still made during the scoreless contest. USMNT players Konrad De La Fuente, Yunus Musah and Gio Reyna each made their debuts while Gio became the third player from the Reyna family to appear for their national team as his father Claudio played for the USMNT and his mother Danielle played for the USWNT.
Head Coach Gregg Berhalter's men have another friendly ahead of them when the squad travels to Austria to take on Panama on Monday.
Friday features the South American World Cup qualifiers with a colossal clash between Colombia and Uruguay, both in search of a second straight win during CONMEBOL play. While Argentina atop the table, second-place Brazil will be in action and looking to keep pace when Neymar and company host Venezuela.
Saturday's soccer schedule is jam-packed, and it's headlined by the UEFA Nations League including Germany against Ukraine, Sweden hosting Croatia and Spain paying visit to Switzerland. But the game between giants all eyes will be on is Portugal against France - a rematch of the Euro 2016 Final that ended with the Portuguese being crowned as European champions.
Nations League action continues well into Sunday with no shortage of top-level teams in action including Italy hosting Poland, Russia traveling to Turkey, Holland playing host to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Just like the day before, there's a heavyweight bout between global juggernauts when England visit Belgium.
But international play isn't the only top-quality soccer over the weekend as the FA Women's Super League is in full swing in England with the top showdown on Saturday being the Manchester Derby when United host City with crucial bragging rights on the line. A number of USWNT players will be suited up for both sides as Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis both play for City while Tobin Heath and Christen Press play for United.
On Sunday, the action in the top tier of English women's soccer continues with another massive matchup when second place Arsenal hosts third place Chelsea for a Sunday morning London Derby.
