Chico Outlaws News Release
LONG BEACH, CA - Two errors in the bottom of the 11th inning paved the way for the Long Beach Armada to score the winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Chico Outlaws Thursday night at Blair Field...the Armada win completing a four-game series sweep of the Outlaws and sending Chico to its seventh straight defeat.
The Outlaws took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when, with two men aboard, Long Beach starter Seth Etherton uncorked a wild pitch...Eric Pringle advanced to third, but Armada catcher David Ramirez tried to gun down Dan Luyben at second base and threw the ball into center field, allowing Pringle to score. Long Beach tied up the contest in the bottom of the 3rd when Michael Glomb scored on Omar Bramasco's RBI single...then in the 5th the Armada went out in front on a double by Glomb and a triple by Bramasco. Long Beach went up 3-1 in the 6th; Norm Hutchins scoring on a Ryan Brown single to right.
Etherton and reliever Nick Bierbrodt held the Outlaws to just two hits through the first seven innings, but in the 8th Chico plated two runs off left-hander Sean Buller - back-to-back singles by Luyben and Steve Boggs was followed by a sacrifice fly by Tony Torcato, which drove in Luyben...Casey Garrison then lined a double down the left field line to chase home Boggs and tie the game. Neither team could score in the 9th - the Armada left the bases loaded in the final frame of regulation - and the game went into extra innings. After a scoreless 10th inning, Long Beach pushed across the game-winner in the 11th - Julian Williams reached on a throwing error by Outlaws third baseman Bryan Silverman; Williams ending up at third on the play...Chico elected to intentionally walk both Bramasco and Steve Moss to load the bases. Ryan Lehr then sent a routine grounder to shortstop Jesse Kovacs, who threw home for the force-out...but catcher Matt Ceriani had the ball clip his glove and roll to the backstop; Williams crossed the plate safely and the Armada had the 4-3 victory and the series sweep.
Long Beach reliever Nick Cavanaugh (4-1) pitched the final three innings of relief to pick up the win...Todd Gelatka (3-4) suffered the loss for Chico. The Outlaws had just seven hits on the night, with Garrison going 2-for-5...Bramasco and Glomb each went 3-for-4 to lead the Armada's 13-hit attack. Thursday's loss dropped Chico to 13-23 in the second half and 28-50 for the year...Long Beach improved to 20-15 in the second half and 42-37 overall. The Outlaws are back in action Friday, continuing their road trip against the St. George Roadrunners...Greg Bicknell (4-4) will start for Chico in the opener of the two-game mini-series. First pitch is 6:05pm Pacific time... hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
