
Minor League Baseball Team to Give Away a Ton of Manure - A First in Pro Sports

(Yuma, AZ. August 22, 2008) The Golden Baseball League, the premiere independent professional minor league in western North America, has approved the Barnyard Night promotion of the Yuma Scorpions which will result in the first ever giveaway of manure to fans. The Yuma Scorpions wil lprovide all fans attending Saturday night's doubleheader this weekend an opportunity to receive free manure fertilizer, courtesy of Yuma Nursery Supply. The very popular annual Barnyard Night, a benefit fundraiser for Yuma Valley Achievers 4-H Club and Saddles of Joy will provide even more value to the fan experience now than ever before.
Scorpions Manager Mike Marshall, who has been giving umpires crap all year, will be giving it to the fans on this night. The Scorpions will have 1 ton of manure fertilizer in the concourse for fans to take home with them for their gardens, lawns, farms or any other use that they would need manure fertilizer for. Fans are encouraged to bring their own buckets, wheelbarrows, or even small trucks to shovel their share. The manure is being donated by Yuma Nursery Supply located at 4450 S. Ave A and can be reached at 344-2820.
"Agriculture is key to the economy here in Yuma, and besides water there is nothing more valuable than a good bag of fertilizer," said Yuma Scorpions Manager and Team President, Mike Marshall. "It's great to partner with Yuma Nursery Supply to honor this important ingredient and to make it available at no cost to our fans."
One of the most popular Scorpion's games of the year, Barnyard Night is a fundraiser with ticket proceeds going to Yuma area 4-H clubs and to Saddles of Joy - a therapeutic riding program dedicated to introducig children, or any person with the desire, to the joy and value of one of nature's most beautiful creations, "The Horse". Activities at the game will include:
- Free manure fertilizer -- shovel your own (shovels provided) into any container that you bring.
- Barnyard Animal Mid-Inning Events such as -- Chicken Poop Bingo, Bovine Beauty Contest, Pig Dance-Off, Goat Milking and Chugging,
Mascot Race a Horse Around the Bases, Sheep Wrestling, Mutton Busting, etc.
Tickets are available by calling the Yuma Scorpions at 928-257-4700 or contacting Yuma Valley Achievers 4-H or Saddles of Joy. Gates open at 5:00 P.M. The first game will begin at 6:00pm and second game will start approximately ½ hour after the end of the first.
