Jacksonville Armada FC News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (January 29, 2015) - The Armada FC, Jacksonville's new North American Soccer League team, announced today the signing of veterans Pascal Millien (PASS-cal MIL-on) and David Sierra.
The additions of Millien and Sierra bring the Armada FC's official first team roster count to 14. Millien joins Jaime CastrillÃ"n, Marcos Flores, Lucas Rodriguez and Nico Zaldana at midfield while Sierra joins the goalkeeper mix with Miguel Gallardo.
"Pascal and David are strong additions to our squad," said Armada FC General Manager Dario Sala. "They fit in well with our style of play, and I expect their experience against good competition to help our team continue to get better."
Born in Léogâne, Haiti, Millien moved to Lakeland, Fla., as a teenager and was named the 2005 Florida Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year for Auburndale High School. Millien, 28, scored 114 goals with 40 assists in three seasons of high school soccer and also played his youth club soccer for HC United in Tampa.
Millien continued his amateur career with the University of Tampa from 2007-09 after playing a season at Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). He recorded 25 career goals and 30 assists en route to earning several accolades at UT, including an NCAA Division II Final Four in 2008 with the Spartans and Daktronics All-American first team honors. Millien also played in the USL Premier Development League while in college with the Ajax Orlando Prospects, Brandenton Academics, Atlanta Silverbacks U23s and the Chicago Fire Premier.
A member of the Haitian national team since 2006 with 12 international matches to his credit, Millien comes to Jacksonville after spending the 2014 season with Sheikh Russel KC in Bangladesh. He scored three goals in seven league matches and played in the AFC President's Cup, netting two goals and recording five assists in helping lead the club to the tournament final.
Prior to moving to Bangladesh, Millien scored two goals in 33 appearances from 2012-13 with League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers. In 2012, he helped the Rovers win the league championship to qualify for the 2012/13 Europa League, where the Rovers faced FC Spartak Trnava. Millien also helped Sligo Rovers secure the Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup (FAI Cup) in 2013. Millien also played with the NASL's Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he made his professional debut in 2010 and also spent the 2011 season with the team. He finished his stint in Tampa with five goals in 52 appearances.
Sierra, 31, comes to the Armada FC after spending the majority of his career in Spain in addition to stints in Honduras and Puerto Rico. A native of Madrid, Spain, he learned soccer at a young age at the Rayo Vallecano Development Academy before moving to the Real Madrid Development Academy in 1997 and making his senior career debut in goal for Real Madrid C in 2002.
After three seasons with Real Madrid C, Sierra moved on to Spanish side SD Ponferradina in 2004. He made his debut in goal for the club in 2006, making an appearance in Copa del Rey competition against Elche CF. He finished with 57 appearances with SD Ponferradina before moving on to CF Fuenlabrada in 2007, where he made 54 appearances in three seasons.
Sierra signed with Spanish fourth division side AD Arganda in 2009, where he made 15 appearances with the club in two seasons. In 2010, he moved to Puerto Rico, where he tended goal for BayamÃ"n FC for seven matches, including the CFU Club Championship match, before moving on to Sevilla FC Puerto Rico for three appearances. Sierra spent 2011 in Honduras with CD Victoria before making the move back to Spain, making 47 total appearances for CD Puerta Bonita in 2012 and 2013.
The Armada FC expect to make additional player announcements over the next several weeks as it eventually rounds out its full roster by the start of the new NASL season in April 2015.
