San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, January 29, 2015) - The San Antonio Scorpions have signed former Colombian youth international Eduar Zea pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Zea is a powerful, fast, young center back with experience playing in the Columbian top flight as well as representing Columbia as a former youth national team member," said Marcina. "He has a strong work rate and intensity on the pitch and he is a great addition to our NASL record-setting defense and the project we are building here in San Antonio."

The 6'1" Zea was a member of Colombia's U-17 squad that advanced to the knockout stages of the 2007 U-17 FIFA World Cup in South Korea, where he played in all four matches against U-17 teams from Germany, Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago and Nigeria. He turned professional in 2009, when he was signed by Deportes Quindío and has gone on to make over 30 appearances in the Columbian leagues.

"There is a lot of hidden talent in Colombia - as Rafael Castillo proved last season - and we're very pleased to have signed a defender of Zea's quality." Said Cornfield.

The 25-year-old native of Quibdó, Colombia, has played professionally for Corporación Deportes Quindío (Categoría Primera B), América de Cali (Categoría Primera A), and Club Deportivo La Equidad Seguros (Categoría Primera A).

With the move, the Scorpions now have twelve players on the roster for 2015:

GK - Sattler

D - DeRoux, James, Zea

M - Menjivar, Castillo, Forbes, Soto

F - Elizondo, Hassli, Zahorski, Caesar

The Scorpions will begin defense of their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off on April 4 at Toyota Field against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit SAScorpions.com.
