It only took one moment of brilliance for Arizona United Soccer Club to finish its long road trip with a 1-0 win over Real Monarchs SLC.

Midfielder Luke Rooney was roughly ten yards past the midfield line when he spotted forward Tyler Blackwood charging up the middle of the field. Rooney sent a long diagonal right-to-left pass toward Blackwood, who headed the pass to his left, away from his defender, and into open space.

With the ball rolling toward the top of the box, and the Monarch's stellar goalkeeper Lalo Fernandez charging, Blackwood sprinted toward the ball and unleashed a low and hard drive at the right post.

He beat the keeper, and squeezed the ball inside the post, for the match's only goal.

The goal not only broke a scoreless tie, but it snapped a team scoreless streak that had lasted over 300 minutes. Prior to Blackwood's strike, Arizona United (2-3-0) hadn't scored since the 24th minute of their match against Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, March 30 (they had been shutout in two consecutive matches coming into Friday night's contest). Arizona United also handed Real Monarchs SLC (2-1-1) their first loss of the season.

Arizona United will not play a league match again until the club's home opener on Saturday, April 30, against Portland Timbers 2. But, Arizona United will play its first match at Peoria Sports Complex on Sunday, April 17, against the U20 Mexican National Team. Tickets are still available to purchase, but space is limited.
