Argos Sign Veteran Safety Wayne Shaw

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of S Wayne Shaw to a practice roster agreement.

Originally drafted in the second round (13th overall) by Toronto in the 1999 CFL Draft, Shaw spent three seasons in the Double Blue from 1999 to 2001 before signing with the Montreal Alouettes.

While in Montreal, Shaw helped his club reach two consecutive Grey Cup appearances, capturing a championship in 2002. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native most recently spent time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a starting safety after signing with the club in 2004. Throughout his nine-year CFL career, Shaw has amassed 260 defensive tackles and 25 interceptions for 494 return yards and 6 touchdowns.

2007: Started at safety in the pre-season as well as the first two games of the regular season before being released by Hamilton on July 11.

2006: Started 16 games at Safety for the Tiger-Cats, recording 32 defensive tackles and 3 quarterback sacks.

2005: Started all 18 games for Hamilton at safety...Finished the season with 30 defensive tackles and three interceptions...Also tied for second on the team with 7 pass knockdowns...Played in his 100th career CFL game on September 5 versus Toronto in the Labour Day Classic.

2004: Signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a free agent on February 9...Played in all 18 games, leading the club with four interceptions and 9 pass knockdowns...Registered 29 defensive tackles to accompany four special teams tackles and added both a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

2003: Played in all 18 games with Montreal, leading the team in knockdowns with 8...Finished second on the team with 4 interceptions and generated 41 defensive tackles...2003 Playoffs Made one tackle in the Alouettes East Final victory over Toronto...Grey Cup Championship Dressed for the Alouettes 34-22 Grey Cup loss to Edmonton.

2002: Signed as a free agent with the Montreal Alouettes on March 4...Played in all 18 games in the regular season with the Als, tying for first on the club with 9 pass knockdowns...Also recorded 34 defensive tackles to go along with 6 interceptions...2002 Playoffs Made 3 defensive tackles in East Final win over Toronto...Grey Cup Championship Recorded 1 defensive tackle and two special teams tackles in Montreal's victory over Edmonton.

2001: Named CFL All-Star...Named East Division All-Star...Played in all 18 contests with Toronto, finishing atop the CFL in interceptions with 6, two of which were returned for touchdowns...Led the Boatmen in pass knockdowns with 15 and recorded 40 defensive tackles...On August 16, he picked off a Ben Sankey pass and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown.

2000: Played in all 18 games with the Argos, intercepting two passes and returning both for majors...Led the club with 10 pass knockdowns and registered 43 defensive tackles.

1999: Drafted by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2nd round (13th overall) in the CFL Draft...Played in all 18 games in his rookie campaign, registering 8 defensive tackles and 7 special teams tackles...Also recorded 3 knockdowns and 1 forced fumble.

College: Played two seasons at the Kent State University Golden Flashes after transferring from North Dakota State Junior College...In 22 career games with the Golden Flashes Shaw made 95 total tackles (75 solo)...Also had three interception returns for 58 yards...1998: Played in all 11 games during his senior year...Made 33 total tackles (29 solo) and added three pass knock downs...1997: Started all 11 games at cornerback, finishing third on the team with 62 total tackles and second with 42 solo tackles...Made a season high nine tackles against both Marshall and Central Michigan...Caused a fumble and recovered a fumble vs. Central Florida...Led the team with three interceptions including one he returned 56 yards vs. Army...1996: In his final season at North Dakota State Junior College he was named to the All-Region 11 first-team...Recorded six interceptions, four fumble recoveries and two blocked punts during the season.

Personal: Wayne is the son of Joyce Shaw and has two older brothers...Before attending North Dakota State Junior College, he was a star at River East Collegiate in Winnipeg.
