Argos continue Stop the Violence initiative

Toronto - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club continues to reach out to troubled areas of the City of Toronto with its bid to Stop The Violence. The Argos are pleased to announce their second community practice as part of this initiative on Saturday, September 17 at 11:45 a.m. at West Humber Collegiate in Etobicoke.

The Stop The Violence - We Are Toronto program was launched on August 23 and has brought the Argos to a community practice at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York. A town hall meeting was conducted live on Citytv on Sunday in a call to action from both community and business leaders to address issues of violent and gun-related crimes. The corporate community is being tapped to help raise funds to support existing community programs and new initiatives.

Part of the Toronto Argonauts fundraising efforts are through the sale of Stop The Violence merchandise. Since its launch on Thursday, September 8, 2005, more than 2,500 Stop The Violence bracelets have been sold at various Argo events.

In addition to the Argo players and coaching staff, Leo Cahill, the Blue Thunder cheerleaders and Jason the Argo mascot will be present at the practice. AM 640 Toronto Radio and Flow 93.5 will also be on-site. More information is available at www.stoptheviolence.ca.
