'Arctic Mode' Wins Jersey Design Competition
February 24, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Fargo Force News Release
Back in early February the first ever "Fan Designed Jersey Competition" was announced. With a grand prize of dropping the the puck at a home Fargo Force game and the opportunity to see your jersey created and worn by the team. Over 30 different jerseys were created and ultimately narrowed down to the top eight. Alex's "Arctic Mode" was one of them.
Over the last week and a half Force nation has weighed in on their favorited designs, voting on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The baby-blue Arctic Mode jersey was a fan favorite from the start, it froze out all its competition and has officially been named the first ever winner of the Jersey Design Competition. It's creator, Alex Werk, is a long-time hockey fan. His depth of hockey experience played a big part in his design and helped him take home the championship title.
Alex is a Fargo native, born and raised right here in North Dakota. Growing up he began playing hockey when he was just five years old. Starting out with the Fargo Freeze and then with Fargo Davies, where he attended high school. Alex's passion for the game has stuck with him since then as he's continued his love for the sport through coaching. This was his third year as an Assistant Coach for the Davies High School Boys Hockey team and his third year as a coach for the Fargo Freeze.
When asked what having his jersey created and worn by the Force meant to him Alex responded with ease."As a Fargo native, it is surreal to see my jersey design being created and worn by my hometown team. I've had friends as well as players that I've coached play for the Force, so it really gives me a sense of community and excitement to have my jersey design worn on the ice"
Growing up Alex and his family were season ticket holders and enjoyed coming to many Force games. He even spent the summers at his friend's house, who also happened to be a Force billet family, providing him the opportunity to get to know the players on and off the ice. Which he said, "made me even more excited to come and watch the games."
Thanks to his many years being involved in hockey Alex had plenty of inspiration for his jersey design. "The story behind my jersey design comes from my days of playing summer hockey with the Fargo Jr. Force. On that team, our 3rd jersey was an Arctic Blue and White jersey. This gave me the opportunity to create a jersey inspired by those and remember the days playing on that team. Again, it really is exciting to be able to have my jersey design come to life and remind me of the days of playing on that team."
Come out to Scheels Arena on Friday April 16th to see Alex drop the puck and watch his vision come to life, as the Force will be wearing his jersey that game! Stay tuned for info more info on the upcoming "Arctic Mode" jersey auction.
